Punjab Police Busts Drug Network, 6 Kg Heroin Seized in Amritsar

One smuggler arrested; probe reveals links to Dubai-based handler

Amritsar, April 30 (H.S.): Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has busted a narcotics smuggling network and arrested one आरोपी with 6 kg of heroin in his possession, officials said on Tuesday.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified the accused as Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Vairoval Road in Jandiala Guru, Amritsar. Police have also impounded a silver Hyundai i10 car (PB10-CV-3211) allegedly used for trafficking the contraband.

According to preliminary investigations, the accused was acting on the directions of a Dubai-based handler, Antarpreet Singh of Sultanwind, who is reportedly involved in multiple narcotics-related cases. Lovepreet Singh was allegedly responsible for procuring heroin consignments and distributing them to various parties as instructed.

Trap Laid, Accused Held

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police learned that the accused had recently obtained a large quantity of heroin and was planning to deliver it near Adda Manawala on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road.

Police teams swiftly laid a trap in the area and apprehended the accused while he was travelling in the vehicle. A search of the car led to the recovery of 6 kg of heroin.

Probe Underway

Officials said further investigations are being carried out to trace forward and backward linkages in order to dismantle the entire drug network.

A case (FIR No. 27 dated April 29, 2026) has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell Police Station in Amritsar.
