Mercer’s 2023 Quality of Living Rankings Hyderabad, Pune, and Bengaluru Lead Indian Cities, Vienna Tops Global List In Mercer’s highly anticipated 2023 Quality of Living ranking, Indian cities have made their mark, with Hyderabad securing the 153rd position, closely followed by Pune at 154 and Bengaluru at 156. Vienna, Austria, once again claims the top spot on the global list, maintaining its reputation as a city with a rich history, stunning architecture, and a vibrant cultural scene that offers residents a high standard of living.

The Mercer Quality of Living data evaluates the practical aspects of daily life for expatriate employees and their families in various locations worldwide. The ranking also underscores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on global living conditions, as the last publication of the list dates back to the pre-pandemic year 2019.

Cities such as Zurich in Switzerland and Auckland in New Zealand secured the second and third positions, respectively, highlighting their exceptional living standards. Notably, several African cities, including N’Djamena (Chad), Bangui (Central African Republic), and Khartoum (Sudan), ranked considerably lower, emphasizing the challenges faced in these regions.

The Middle East also saw cities like Sana’a (Yemen) and Baghdad (Iraq) facing lower rankings, signifying the urgent need for humanitarian efforts and reconstruction initiatives. Dubai and Abu Dhabi, major cities in the United Arab Emirates, maintained positions at 79th and 84th, respectively, showcasing their modern infrastructure and diverse expatriate communities.

Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou in China secured positions at 109th, 126th, and 132nd, respectively, indicating the evolving landscape of these major Chinese cities. Toronto, San Francisco, and New York City made significant appearances in the North American rankings, securing positions at 17th, 37th, and 40th, respectively. Auckland in New Zealand stood out in the Pacific region, claiming the third spot globally and emphasizing its exceptional quality of living.
