Jagdalpur: In a significant operation, six Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district. According to the police, the deceased cadres were notorious figures within the Naxalite movement, collectively carrying a bounty of ₹38 lakh.
The encounter, which took place near the villages of Gobel and Thulthuli under the Orcha police station limits, is the largest offensive to date against the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) company number 6. This unit is considered a core attacking force of the Naxalites in the region.
The police initially reported that seven Naxalites were killed, later revising the figure to six, including three women. These individuals were part of the military company number 6 of the PLGA and the east Bastar division formations of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), a police official confirmed.
“The operation involving separate teams of security personnel was launched late night on June 6 on the border of Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada, and Bastar districts based on inputs about the presence of Maoists of PLGA military company number 6 and east Bastar division formations,” Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said at a press conference on Saturday.
Personnel from the police’s District Reserve Guard from four districts, the 45th battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and the 95th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force were involved in the operation, he added.
The confrontation began at around 3 pm on Friday when Naxalites opened fire on security personnel in the forest near Bhatbeda-Battekal and Chhotetondebeda villages. This encounter has reportedly instilled a sense of fear among the Naxalite factions in the east Bastar division, a region known to be a stronghold for the insurgents.
This successful operation marks a significant achievement for the security forces in their ongoing battle against Naxalite insurgency in Chhattisgarh.
