Collection crosses ₹5,248 crore, marking over 21% growth compared to last year

Lucknow, May 06 (H.S.): The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing its revenue target for April 2026 in the financial year 2026–27. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Excise, Nitin Agarwal, announced that the department recorded a revenue collection of ₹5,248.06 crore during the month.

This marks an increase of 21.50 percent, or ₹928.60 crore, compared to ₹4,319.46 crore collected in April 2025. The revenue also exceeded the set target of ₹5,200 crore for April 2026 by 0.92 percent.

Enforcement and Action

The minister highlighted that strict enforcement measures were continued throughout April 2026. A total of 9,535 cases related to illicit liquor were registered during the period. Authorities seized approximately 2.55 lakh litres of illegal liquor, arrested 1,516 individuals, and sent 214 persons to jail. Additionally, eight vehicles involved in illegal activities were confiscated.

Yearly Performance Overview

Highlighting the department’s performance in the previous financial year (2025–26), Agarwal stated that total revenue collection stood at ₹57,722.26 crore till March 2026. This reflects a growth of 9.79 percent, or ₹5,149.19 crore, compared to ₹52,573.07 crore collected in the corresponding period of 2024–25.

During the same period, enforcement agencies registered 1,18,978 cases related to illegal liquor. Around 30.94 lakh litres of illicit liquor and other intoxicants were seized. A total of 21,446 individuals were arrested, 3,967 were sent to jail, and 152 vehicles used in smuggling were seized.
