₹50 crore facility at MPIT to focus on AI, cybersecurity, drones, and space technology training

Lucknow, April 15: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to inaugurate a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the Maharana Pratap Institute of Technology (MPIT) in Gorakhpur on Tuesday. The facility, developed in collaboration with the TCS Foundation, marks the first such centre in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The ₹50 crore project aims to strengthen technical education and skill development in emerging technologies, positioning Gorakhpur as a potential hub for advanced learning.

Focus on Emerging Technologies

The Centre of Excellence will offer specialised training in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, drone technology, and space science. Dedicated laboratories have been established for these domains, including AI and cybersecurity labs.

The initiative is expected to cater to students from multiple institutions, including those affiliated with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in the region.

Collaboration and Industry Linkages

The CoE is a joint initiative involving MPIT, the TCS Foundation, and Mahayogi Gorakhnath University. Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran is expected to be present at the inauguration ceremony.

Officials said the collaboration is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by providing access to advanced infrastructure and training.

Training and Outreach Programmes

As part of the launch, a 60-day training programme in AI and cybersecurity has been planned, aimed at equipping students with practical skills. The centre also proposes outreach initiatives, including awareness programmes to introduce technology applications in sectors such as agriculture.

Government’s Development Push

In a message shared on social media, Chief Minister Adityanath described the initiative as a significant step in expanding educational opportunities for youth. He said the centre would contribute to skill development and support broader goals of self-reliance and economic growth.

Regional and Economic Impact

The establishment of the CoE is expected to boost employment prospects and encourage the growth of a startup ecosystem in eastern Uttar Pradesh. By focusing on emerging technologies, the initiative aims to prepare students for evolving job markets and innovation-driven sectors.

Conclusion

The launch of the Centre of Excellence in Gorakhpur reflects ongoing efforts to expand technical education infrastructure in the region, with a focus on future-ready skills and industry collaboration. (With inputs from H.S.)
