Programme called off amid heavy rain; visit to be rescheduled soon, says MLA

Jammu, April 30 (H.S.): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s scheduled visit to Bani in Kathua district was cancelled on Tuesday due to inclement weather conditions, officials said.
The Chief Minister was slated to inaugurate development projects, lay foundation stones and address a public gathering in the Bani-Lohimalar area. However, persistent rain and adverse weather forced authorities to call off the programme.
Bani MLA Dr Rameshwar Singh expressed disappointment over the cancellation, stating that both the administration and local residents had high expectations from the visit.
“Due to bad weather and rain, the Chief Minister’s programme had to be cancelled. The people are also very disheartened,” Singh said, adding that a large number of residents had gathered at the venue despite heavy rainfall.
Visit to Be Rescheduled
The MLA said the Chief Minister, along with Education and Health Minister Sakina Itoo, was keen to attend the event and waited until around 1:30 PM for weather clearance. However, with no improvement in conditions, the visit had to be cancelled.
Calling the situation unavoidable, Singh said the programme would be rescheduled soon.
“We will speak to the Chief Minister and invite him again shortly. A new date for the visit to Bani-Lohimalar will be fixed soon,” he added.
