Maiden bilateral trip aimed at strengthening India–Sri Lanka ties and people-to-people connections
New Delhi, April 17: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan is set to undertake a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka from April 19 to 20, marking his first bilateral trip to the island nation since assuming office.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit comes in the backdrop of recent high-level engagements between the two countries and is expected to further deepen longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties.

Key Engagements Planned

During the visit, the Vice President will hold meetings with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, along with other senior leaders. The discussions are likely to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation across sectors.

Radhakrishnan is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian diaspora, highlighting the importance of people-to-people connections that form a key pillar of India–Sri Lanka relations.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

India and Sri Lanka share close historical, cultural, and economic ties. High-level visits such as this are seen as important steps in reinforcing cooperation in areas including trade, development partnerships, and regional stability.

The visit is expected to provide momentum to ongoing diplomatic engagement and open avenues for further collaboration between the two neighbours.
