Police arrested three local Trinamool Congress leaders from Hooghly district after fresh complaints related to alleged violence, intimidation and vandalism following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

Three local leaders of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) were arrested in West Bengal’s Hooghly district in connection with alleged incidents of post-poll violence reported after the 2021 Assembly elections.
The arrests were carried out by Gurap Police under Hooghly Rural Police during a late-night raid in Nedampur village on Tuesday.
Accused Produced Before Court
The arrested individuals were identified as Samrat Mallick, Raju Dhara and Robin Bag.
According to police sources, the three were produced before the Chinsurah court on Wednesday, where investigators sought police custody for further questioning.
Officials said the arrests were linked to allegations of violence and intimidation targeting BJP workers and supporters in the aftermath of the 2021 election results.
Allegations of Violence and Intimidation
Police sources stated that complaints against the accused include vandalising homes, assaulting residents, looting property and issuing death threats in Nedampur village.
Investigators said the alleged incidents occurred shortly after the Assembly election results were declared in 2021, a period during which several districts in West Bengal witnessed accusations of political violence.
According to the complaints, many affected residents allegedly did not immediately approach the police due to fear and tension prevailing in the area at the time.

NHRC Inquiry and Fresh Complaints
The case gained renewed attention after a team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) reportedly visited the area during earlier investigations into post-poll violence in Bengal.
Police sources said the NHRC later submitted a report, following which authorities began examining the allegations more closely.
Officials added that the administration subsequently registered a suo motu case and reached out to families who were allegedly affected.
The latest arrests were made after members of the victim families submitted fresh written complaints to Gurap Police Station on Tuesday night.
Background of Bengal’s Post-Poll Violence Cases
The 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections were followed by widespread allegations of political clashes, attacks and intimidation from multiple districts.
Several incidents were reported by opposition parties, particularly the BJP, which accused ruling party workers of targeting supporters after the election results. The Trinamool Congress had denied involvement in organised violence and maintained that legal procedures were being followed in all cases.
The issue later drew national attention, leading to investigations, court proceedings and visits by rights bodies including the NHRC.
Political Tension Returns to Gurap
The arrests have reportedly triggered fresh political tension in the Gurap area of Hooghly district, with local political workers closely monitoring developments in the case.
Police officials said further investigation is underway and additional questioning of the accused is expected in the coming days.
