Party warns of agitation if authorities fail to restore smooth gas supply for students preparing for competitive examinations

Prayagraj, 12 May (H.S.): The Pragatisheel Samaj Party (PSP) on Monday raised serious concerns over the ongoing LPG gas shortage in Prayagraj, alleging that the crisis is severely affecting thousands of students residing in the city for competitive exam preparation.
PSP National President Engineer Sunil Kushwaha demanded immediate intervention from the district administration and warned that the party would launch a public movement if urgent corrective measures were not taken to resolve the issue.
Calling Prayagraj one of India’s largest educational hubs, Kushwaha said lakhs of students from across the country live in the city while preparing for various competitive examinations. Many students, he noted, rely on small cylinders containing 2 to 3 kilograms of gas to manage their daily cooking and living expenses.
According to PSP leaders, Kushwaha spoke directly with the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Civil Supply and urged the administration to ensure uninterrupted LPG availability for students. He also demanded that authorised refill centres for small cylinders be established across different localities to provide immediate relief.
“The government claims there is no gas shortage, but the ground reality in Prayagraj tells a completely different story,” Kushwaha said.
He alleged that domestic LPG cylinders are not being delivered on time despite bookings, while commercial cylinders have almost disappeared from the market. In addition, several local vendors who previously refilled small cylinders have reportedly stopped their services due to supply shortages and regulatory pressure.
The PSP chief said the crisis has created major difficulties for students, many of whom are now forced to spend extra money on hotel food or return to their hometowns, disrupting both their studies and financial planning.
He urged authorities to act swiftly and ensure that students do not suffer during a crucial academic period. Kushwaha also stressed that uninterrupted access to essential resources like cooking gas is necessary to maintain a stable study environment for aspirants preparing for national-level examinations.
The party reiterated that if the administration fails to take immediate action, PSP workers would intensify protests in support of students across Prayagraj.
